Done with "Pussy"!!!
I've reached my limit! I am SO over the derogatory use of the word "pussy" in recent, popular shows. How is it that as a society, the US (in general at least, thank the goddess) have moved on from casual, derogatory use of "gay", of "fag", or the N-word yet still, STILL and OFTEN the slur "pussy" is used as general slang for a men not "manning up"???
Seriously? First, let's look at cases in point, (and I don't watch a lot of popular dramas because I just don't need that much drama, miscommunication, violence, and violent sex in my life- so there's likely a ton of examples I'm missing) such as Cobra Kai. I have to say I *loved* season one of this. Nice nostalgia play, amusing ways to show how out-of-touch Johnny is with modern diversity, and 2 solid, young female characters who are actually portrayed with some depth- bonus points for having at least one female lead NOT typical white and thin. Then came the next seasons. The diverse female is ditched, the remaining white, thin gals are the "sweet" one and the "mean" one (can we say madonna and whore stereotypes anyone?) and by season three, you can't watch a *single* episode without "pussy" being used as a slander. It's so ubiquitous that even if by some chance someone called one, even all the guys out on this misogyny, it would be far too little too late. I stopped watching. Then let's switch gears to a show that's known for showing the opposite, and actually has a really kind, good guy at center, Ted Lasso. You'd think there's no way this show would toss out a derogatory "pussy" from a sweet guy, right? Sadly, wrong. Nate - who is such a great character to watch for his dedication and perseverance - called out one of the team for not being aggressive enough in his play, by saying he was a "pussy". Could you imagine this show using any of the other slanders I pointed out above? I can't. Yet somehow, "pussy" persists - and not in a way we want to hear. So this has to make us question, if other minority slanders, and sexuality slanders, are seen as offense by all (in general), why on earth is pussy still ok? Because there's been so many strides made, yet females and femininity remain stereotyped. They remain fodder for humor and slander. Can we PLEASE move on?? Good goddess. If you've ever doubted how much of a deep patriarchy we're still steeped in, you seriously only have to look at 2 phrases in American slang" 'Don't be a pussy' and 'Get some balls'. Ever think about these? Because pussies literally can take a pounding (and *love* it, I gotta say!) and they can perform miracles, like life. They are POWERFUL, my friend. Now, a pair of testicles? They can take an entire man down with, literally, a flick of the wrist (or, truly, even a flick of a finger). But, somehow, pussy=weal and balls=power. Language reflects a LOT. It's all ridiculous- but it's also quite inspiring to my muse! So I have a LOT of designs planned. *rubs palms with a wide grin* Oh Yes! So many things coming!! Just WAIT!
